The Maui Interscholastic League was eliminated from title contention at the Motiv8 Foundation/HHSAA Girls Soccer State Championships on Thursday after both Kamehameha Schools Maui and Baldwin were defeated in the quarterfinals at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
The Warriors (10-1-2) — the two-time defending MIL Division I champions — lost a heartbreaker to Kamehameha Kapalama, 1-0 in overtime.
Ionare Ve’e scored the game-winner in the third minute of the extra period to send the Kapalama Warriors to a semifinal meeting with second-seeded Campbell.
The other semifinal will be Mililani against top-seeded Punahou, which downed Baldwin 3-0 on Thursday.
The Buff ‘n Blue got a goal from Laulea Ah Mook Sang in the 35th minute before Carly Ann Cormack tacked on a pair of second-half goals in the 50th and 66th minutes.
The Bears (9-5-0) will face Hilo in a fifth-place semifinal today. The other consolation match will be Kamehameha Maui taking on Waiakea.
In the Division II tournament, MIL champion Seabury Hall advanced to Saturday’s consolation final with a 6-1 victory over Waialua on Thursday.
Erika Hammer recorded a hat trick with goals in the 28th, 31st and 41st minutes. Quinn Quinabo (17th minute) and Victoria Osborn (76th) also scored for the Spartans (7-1-0), who also got an own goal in the second half.
Sophia Jones (44th) scored for the Bulldogs.
