Excitement building for Hui Noeaus upcoming exhibition and Art Affair | News, Sports, Jobs

Once again, a favorite event for art lovers is ready to kick-off as the Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center at 2841 Baldwin Ave. in Makawao will host its prestigious annual juried exhibition, which gives its visitors an opportunity to view current work by local artists in all media.
Receiving Day for artists interested in participating in this exhibition will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 2. The prospectus and entry forms are available online at www.huinoeau.com/exhibitions.
The juror is yet to be announced, but the exhibit will be in gallery for public viewing during normal business hours of 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily from Jan. 12 to Feb. 16.

The evening features a live and silent auction, live music, dancing, a gourmet seated dinner created by Chef Bev Gannon and Celebrations Catering, winner of The Maui News’ Best of Maui 2017 Best Caterer award.
This year’s event takes its inspiration from the Japanese artist Hokusai Katsushika and his most iconic work, “The Great Wave off Kanagawa,” from the “36 Views of Mount Fuji” series.
The Hui encourages guests to embrace and celebrate in the spirit of the theme by dressing the part — taking ideas from the diverse fashion of Japanese culture or the country’s picturesqure landscapes captured in Hokusai’s work.
Tickets are now available for Art Affair 2018:Hokusai by calling 572-6560 or by visiting www.huinoeau.com/ art-events. VIPtickets are $250 for individual or $2,500 for a table of 10; standard tickets are $195 individual or $1,950 for a table of 10. A portion of the ticket cost is tax-deductible.
